May – Arthritis Awareness Month
It’s May – Arthritis Awareness Month 🎗️
Each May, we take the opportunity to shine a light on arthritis, a complex, often misunderstood group of diseases that affects millions of people around the world, including both adults and children. First designated in 1972 through the efforts of the Arthritis Foundation, this awareness month reminds us of the urgent need for research, education, and support around one of the most widespread causes of disability in the world.
Did you know?
- Over 350 million people worldwide live with arthritis or a related rheumatic condition.
- It’s not just a disease of ageing. Two-thirds of people with arthritis are under 65.
- There are over 100 types of arthritis and related diseases.
- Many living with arthritis also face comorbidities like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, compounding their health challenges.
At ENDOTARGET EU Project, we’re contributing to this global effort by investigating how gut health, immune responses, and systemic inflammation may drive or worsen inflammatory joint conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and spondyloarthritis. Our research aims to uncover early biomarkers and develop personalised strategies to improve outcomes and quality of life.
Let’s use this month to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and advocate for those living with arthritis every day.
