Congratulations to Dr Catarina Mendes Cândido

On the 12th of February, Dr Catarina Mendes Cândido successfully defended her master’s thesis in biomedical sciences at the University of Lisbon, entitled:

🧬 “The Gut–Joint Axis in Radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis: A Study on Intestinal Barrier Function”

Her work, developed within WP2 of the ENDOTARGET EU Project, contributes valuable insights into how intestinal barrier dysfunction may influence inflammation and disease mechanisms in axial spondyloarthritis.

By investigating the complex interactions between the gut and the joints, Catarina’s research strengthens our understanding of how systemic endotoxemia and barrier integrity are involved in chronic inflammatory diseases.
